“Be a Blessing"
God chooses Abram and Sara to enter into a covenant with.
With intense love God promises them many descendants,
a covenantal relationship with God and a land.
"I will give to you and to your offspring after you- the whole land of Canaan-
as an everlasting possession and I shall be a God to them."
Abram and Sara faithfully and lovingly seek holiness and
greater Divine connection despite
the hardships and the struggles they are faced with.
They understood that the magnificent world around them
must have been created and
that the Creator continues to be intimately involved with it.
They are the first to teach this knowledge of God to those around them.
With kindness they reach out to others to teach them about God,
enriching and adding meaning to their lives.
Our job, as descendants of Abraham and Sarah
is to recognize that Truth for ourselves and
faithfully carry on the covenant which they entered into.
Abraham and Sara were charged with
being sources of blessing in the world and so,
by extension are we.
Be a blessing- do good, be good, be kind, fix the broken world,
bring people close, strive for peace,
sacrifice your own self, if need be,
for something higher and more transcendent.
Each one of us is part of one big collective soul- one big, diverse Jewish family.
We are interconnected as brothers and sisters,
with a common heritage, a common ancestry,
a common land, a common language and a common mission-
"To be a blessing!"
We look to learn from and follow our ancestors
who blazed a trail for us.
May we be successful in bringing blessing into the world.
May we be kind and giving in all our interactions with others.
May we feel increasingly connected to God and
fulfill our part of the covenant.
Shabbat shalom
