"Prayer is Built into the Universe"
God takes the Jewish people out of Egypt because
God heard their prayers,
their wordless screams, their hysterical outcry and their groaning.
The children of Israel," Cried out (ze'akah )"
"Their outcry (shav'asam),that stemmed from their hard labor, arose to God."
"G-d heard their groaning (ne'akah)"
"Our troubles appear before G-d in Heaven only as we present them to Him"
(Rabbi Pinchus)
We must spell out our troubles, our pain and our desires
so that Gd will "see" and "hear" them.
There is a special mitzvah to pray in times of distress. (Ramban)
This week we read about Pharoah repeatedly summoning Moshe and Aaron and
begging them to pray to God to stop the plagues.
Our sages have enumerated 10-12 different types or varieties of prayer.
Prayer is built into the universe, it was
embedded into the nature of the world at the beginning of time.
Everything stood at the threshold, all in potential until
man came and actualized it through prayer.
It is the work we do to bring forth goodness.
It is the energy needed to turn the tap of blessings on.
It connects the physical with the transcendent.
It connects us with God.
Please God help me pray,
to open my heart, to access my soul.
Help me to connect the divine within with the divine without.
I yearn for a deeper closer relationship with God.
Help me to look up and see a bigger picture and
thereby leave the mess of life behind, just for a short time.
Answer my pleading for a better world,
for goodness and love to reign supreme and
for the end of all pain and suffering.
Chodesh tov and Shabbat shalom,
with love
Elissa
