Elul is the month to be mindful, to reflect and to be more self-aware.
The month before the beginning of the world.
The time to focus on who we have the potential to be.
Elul is a month where we can recreate ourselves.
Elul is a time where God is close,
like a King who leaves his palace to walk
with his people in the field.
Elul is a time where God will circumcise our hearts
and allow us to feel and emote more.
God will cut away the things that block us,
giving us greater access to our heart and soul -
the parts of us where love, passion and inspiration live.
I think of my soul as a shiny light.
Like a bright beam hidden deep inside my physicality.
My skin is thick, and it blocks the radiance that my soul emits.
Only our eyes allow the shafts of bright light to shine from the inside out.
Our eyes are our portal to our soul.
Our soul is the breath of God constantly being blown into us.
The light of our soul cleanses, enlivens and animates.
Elul is like a city of refuge in time.
A place for us to feel safe and protected.
A place in time to work on ourselves and
return to the essence of who we are.
My bright, holy, light-filled breath of God that is my soul
wants to connect, wants to be manifested and
will bring simcha (joy) along with it.
Elul is the month to put the soul in charge, in the driver’s seat.
Let’s use this month wisely, soulfully.
We have so much potential.
Sending much love for a Shabbat shalom,
Elissa
