Rosh Hashana

Rosh Hashanah

At this time of year, we blow the shofar every day.

The wordless sounds of the ram’s horn

pierce through both the heavens and our own soul,

helping us access and focus on the innermost parts of who we are.

The shofar, with its primal scream, opens us up to our essence.

The tekiah sound is long and strong and represents the

pure soul we were given at birth.

The broken cry of the shevarim

connects us to the things we did and said which created separation.

The terua is the heart ‘sobbing’ for reconnection and

'speaks’ of our desire to return to the purity we had at birth.

Finally, the long tekiah gedolah is stronger and more powerful than the initial tekiah.

It represents our stronger, purer, more focused, and more committed self.

Rosh Hashanah, the New Year is soon upon us.

It is a gift to be able to literally begin again.

We can choose to live life differently.

We can recreate and redefine ourselves.

We can recognize our fallibility and forgive ourselves and others.

The challenge is to emerge after Rosh Hashanah higher,

holier, more expanded, and more rejuvenated.

Perhaps we can hope to be that final tekiah gedolah (long shofar blast)

Rosh Hashanah brings the soul back to life.

It is a time to focus on our spiritual selves, which IS who we are!

We are souls being transported through life by our bodies.

On Rosh Hashanah we are judged in the moment.

Who am I as I stand in Gd’s Presence today?

My soul is exposed and is yearning for connection,

yearning to love and be loved,

yearning to be pure and clean,

yearning to be able to start all over again, and

yearning to undo all the mistakes.

Rosh Hashanah is a time to forgive, to grow, to plan, to be,

to release ourselves from that which constrains us, to ask for compassion,

to be present and vulnerable, to face ourselves, to self-reflect,

to emote, to connect, to expand, to wake up, to rise up, and to be courageous.

There is no limit, no ceiling, no end.

It is never too late.

Our spiritual journey is infinite.

Right now, is the time to live fully, honestly, authentically, and with integrity.

Let’s reorient ourselves and ask for Divine help in creating the relationships

with ourselves, with others and with Gd that we have the potential to have.

Shabbat shalom and

may we all be blessed with good health, sweet blessings and deeply honest relationships.
